When my Eva vibrator arrived in the mail, it caused much excitement in my house. But not the kind that you’re thinking. No, it was because the package was almost opened by my teens. But I think after time has passed, we’ve been able to move past that.
I found out about the vibe through a crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo a few years ago. I loved everything I learned about this product and how it came to fruition.
The company, Dame Products, was founded by two much-younger-than-me women. Alexandra Fine, the CEO, has a Masters in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in sex therapy. And Janet Lieberman, the CTO, has a background in mechanical engineering. The two of them are a sex toy company match made in heaven. (And how fun to be the founders of a sex toy company.)
Then I started reading about their first product, the Eva vibrator. One of the stats on their site is that up to 70% of women need clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm. So Eva was designed as a hands-free vibe that focuses exclusively on the clitoris. The vibe has an oval body with two skinny little arms that extend down from the top. I think it looks kind of like a bug. A cute one. (Though when my husband saw it charging in the bathroom, he thought it was an avant garde night light.)
This vibrator is so unlike anything on the market that the best way to describe how it works is to show you via this illustration.
The skinny arms are flexible and they fit within the folds of the labia majora and help to anchor the vibe in place. Once it’s in place, press the button and well, just look how happy the vagina is in picture number 6.
Last weekend, I finally had some alone time to get familiar with Eva because what I really wanted to know was, “Does it work?”
The first thing I noticed when I took the vibe out of the box was the size. It fits easily in the palm of your hand, which bodes well for your vagina. The vibe is made with medical grade silicone so it is very smooth and soft, even the flexible arms. And it comes with a rechargeable battery, a USB cord plus wall adapter and a discreet black satin carrying pouch. The on/off switch is nice and big and located at the top of the vibe which makes it easy to change speeds while you’re using it. There are three distinct speeds with the strongest one being pretty intense.
It took me a little practice to get the placement of the vibe correct. Each person is going to be different since each vagina is different. I suggest playing with it by yourself first in order to get comfortable with the placement and the sensation.
The hands-free design decreases the obtrusiveness of the vibe so it doesn’t get in the way of a couple’s intimacy. The extra stimulation is actually a bonus for your partner. Or at least it was for mine.
If the vibe does move out of position, which may happen when your bodies change position, a quick correction with the finger is all it takes to move it back. And the power. For such a little vibe, it has a lot of power. In the right place.
I’ve used Eva quite a few times, both with and without my husband, and I can say that it was worth the wait! Part of the mission of Dame Products is “… trying to make the world a happier place one vagina at a time.” One down, millions more to go. And I think they can do it.
The company has a second vibrator on the market now called Fin that’s worn between your fingers. I’m adding it to my wish list!
