I love Las Vegas.
It’s an irrational kind of love. At least it seems that way to others who don’t understand it.
I’ve been going there for over ten years, multiple times per year. Always with my husband, who was my boyfriend the first time I went.
My Las Vegas is not everyone else’s Las Vegas. Very little gambling. And until this trip, I had only ever seen one Vegas show ever. In 2004. On that first trip.
My Vegas is hiking in the mountains and desert, eating, walking Downtown Las Vegas, sex and more eating.
I went to Vegas last week with my husband. I hadn’t been there since December. And I had never been there in April. March, June, August. Even July. But not April. So I wasn’t sure what the weather was going to be like. I packed a little bit of everything. And I’m glad that I did.
Our first hike of the trip was up in the Spring Mountains, on the Mary Jane Falls trail. The trail is a series of switchbacks that take you up to where the waterfall is. We made it up to the top of the trail, where the waterfall was barely trickling, and it got windy. And seemingly out of nowhere, it started to SNOW. So beautiful. And so cold.
Two days later, we hiked in the desert, out at Red Rock Canyon. We got an early start and it was a little chilly at first. I’ve hiked Red Rock many times but this was the first time that the spring flowers were in bloom. So much green and color. Absolutely smile-inducing and mood enhancing.
I have so much more to share about my Las Vegas. The uni, the show, the Bosco pizza and a set of sensory deprivation floatation pods.
But that’ll have to wait until another day. I’m still trying to get my laundry done.
