14 Years of Hot Flashes Meet Their Match

Hot flashesA new study in JAMA Internal Medicine finds that for some women, hot flashes can last up to 14 years. (Mother Nature, what were you thinking?) In a study of 1,449 women, the largest group followed to date, researchers found that the median length of time hot flashes stuck around was 7.4 years. Half of the women reported the symptoms for less that time, but on the other side of the equation, women reported night sweats and similar for as long as 14 years, with black and Hispanic women affected more frequently than other groups.

Researchers appeared shocked by these findings. They said they had no idea hot flashes lasted this long. Really? Don’t they regularly talk to women? Or at least gynecologists? In any case, there’s no need to fret. MiddleSexy readers know how to cope with – and even banish – hot flashes.
