In the video for her new single, “Booty,” 45-year-old Jennifer Lopez covers her assets in a shiny, gooey substance. What is it? She’s not saying, but one lubricant company was so convinced that it offered the pop star an endorsement deal.
Lube on the outside? A slippery concept considering that more and more women are finally admitting they use lubricant the way nature intended. For years, lube was the purview of gay men and porn stars as women of all ages swore off the stuff, unwilling to admit they sometimes needed a little help staying wet. Then along came a new generation of lube, including lube in sexy bottles, organic lube, and lube so powerful that it turned vaginas into ice skating rinks.
Suddenly lube was a new toy, to be tested, compared and even flaunted. Drugstore.com has more than 250 listings for lubricants in its Sexual Well-Being section, and an encyclopedic rundown on the different types available: water-based, silicone, flavored.
One of Middlesexy’s favorite retailers, Good Vibrations, offers a curated section of more than 25 lubes, including Sliquid H2O Natural Lubricant, Please Cream Lubricant, and Good Clean Love Lubricants. Read the reviews and give one a try!
I’ll admit that it took me a few uncomfortable rolls in the hay to give it a try. And once I’d decided to go ahead and purchase a bottle of lube, I spent a week agonizing over which brand to buy. In the end, it was a little bit like a randy version of Goldilocks. The first one was too tacky. The second one a little too greasy. But the third one – ah. It was just right.
And “Booty,” which also stars Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, has gotten more than 56 million views on YouTube. Now that’s pretty slick!
